Jesus and Joker Blanket
Truth holds the sword. The fool holds the scroll. The eye watches both.
The top half is a medieval portrait that never made it into the approved canon. Jesus — not the gentle shepherd version, not the one they put on the wall of every hospital and nursing home to signal compliance — this one holds a sword vertically down his chest like a man who arrived with a specific purpose and hasn't forgotten it. Veritas on the banner in his other hand. Truth. The Latin word that every institution that claims to pursue it has spent the most resources managing, containing, and releasing on a schedule that serves its own survival. Two pinecones flanking him — the pineal gland rendered in architecture, the third eye in biological form, the organ the Vatican placed a giant bronze sculpture of in their courtyard and never explained to the congregation. Metatron's Cube. The all-seeing eye triangle. Baphomet's head at his chest like a brooch — the symbol of duality worn openly by the figure who said the kingdom is within you and meant it more literally than the institution that followed him ever wanted to admit.
The bottom half is the other truth teller. The joker — ancient-faced, red-capped, pulling his eye open with his fingers the way you do when you're forcing yourself to see something your comfort would rather look away from. Reading from a scroll. The all-seeing eye triangle beside him too, A.R.A. inscribed on it like the brand was always the eye's signature. A hot dog floating past. An onion on the table — the thing that makes you cry every time you peel it, layer after layer, never arriving at a center that doesn't sting.
The court jester was the only figure in medieval society legally permitted to tell the king the truth. Everyone else lost their head. The fool kept his by wrapping the truth in performance, in absurdity, in a hat with bells — because the powerful can only hear what threatens them if it arrives laughing.
Jesus held the sword. The joker held the scroll. They both held the eye. The blanket holds both of them and asks you which one you reach for when the truth needs telling.
Wrap yourself in the question.
