Kill the Church, Save the Man Blanket

The two traditions they weaponized against each other are holding the same sword.

This is the painting that never got commissioned. Jesus and a Native American warrior standing together in the ruins of what the institution built — the crumbling cathedral in the background not as backdrop but as evidence, the stone already returning to earth the way everything built on suppression eventually does. Both hands on the same sword. Both faces turned upward toward the light breaking through the storm clouds. A.R.A. at the blade's tip where the light is brightest, at the point where the truth cuts through.

The handshake between them is the part that rewrites history. These are the two figures the colonial doctrinal machine most aggressively attempted to weaponize against each other — one whose teachings were converted into an empire, one whose civilization was destroyed in that empire's name. One whose words were used to justify the conquest of the other's people. And here they stand. Hands clasped. Sword raised together toward the same source they always shared before the institution arrived and drew the boundary between the saved and the savage.

The church in the ruins behind them isn't the teaching. It was never the teaching. The teaching was always the sword of truth held between people who recognize each other across every division that was invented to keep them apart.

Kill the church. Save the man. Not the building — the institution. Not the person — the humanity that the institution was always in the business of managing, converting, containing, and occasionally destroying when it refused to be any of those things.

The sword points at the light. The light has A.R.A. written on it. The brand was always here at the point where two worlds stopped being enemies and started holding the same thing.

Wrap yourself in the reunion.
