Sitting pretty on everything it buried.
The front opens with the phrase centered on the chest:

Then turn around.
A cartoon pope — round, robed, smiling, completely at peace — sitting cross-legged on a throne of stolen wisdom. The Bhagavad Gita. The Vedas. The Tibetan Book of the Dead. Paganism. Buddhism. Stack after stack of everything that was burned, banned, buried or rebranded — and he's sitting on top of all of it holding a golden cross like he built something instead of demolished it.
Behind him the church steeple rises sunny and cheerful against a blue sky. Fluffy clouds. Picture perfect.
On either side Hypatia weeping. Pythagoras weeping. The mathematician who gave us the music of the spheres and the philosopher who was torn apart by a Christian mob in Alexandria — both of them watching from the corners of the painting with their faces in their hands.
The smile on the pope is the most devastating detail. He doesn't feel bad about any of it.
Kangaroo pocket. Hood up when the sermon starts. Hood down when it's time to show what the throne is made of.
